‘Aladdin’ Review

Everyone’s favourite big blue Genie is back, while Mena Massoud shines as the street rat turned Prince in the fantastic live action Aladdin.

A kindhearted street urchin and a power-hungry grand Vizier vie for a magic lamp that has the power to make their deepest wishes come true.

Folks. I was so wrong about Aladdin. But hear me out. The marketing team behind the classic Disney property should be ashamed of themselves because they did a terrible job promoting this movie. Every single image, clip and trailer that came out didn’t paint this to be a very pretty picture. In fact, I was pretty vocal about my distaste for everything that came before its release. Obviously following up animation with live action is extremely difficult, but they rip scenes straight from the animated film, exact quotes and once those songs kick in all that nostalgia just hits you right in the heart. Written and directed by Guy Ritchie, he had some awfully big shoes to fill, not to mention a certain A-list celebrity in this film, both kind of knocked it out of the park.
