James Gunn’s Superman Trailer Is Everything I’ve Been Waiting For

James Gunn just dropped the first full trailer for Superman, and honestly? It’s kind of perfect.

This is the Superman movie I’ve been waiting for. Visually, it pops. The colors are vibrant, the tone is playful but epic, and the world feels like a comic book come to life—not a grounded, gritty real-world setting, and thank god for that. Superman isn’t meant to live in a world of gray. He’s meant to soar in something larger-than-life, and Gunn seems to get that completely.

David Corenswet looks absolutely incredible as Superman. Like, I’m convinced. Whether he’s awkward and kind-eyed as Clark Kent or radiating raw power as Superman, he’s got it. That’s going to be the universal takeaway from this movie: that guy is Superman. Rachel Brosnahan is spot-on as Lois Lane. That little snippet of their interview in the trailer shows she’s sharp, confident, and exactly the kind of Lois we need—tough, curious, and instantly dynamic with Clark.

What I especially love is that we’re jumping into an already-established universe. There’s no hand-holding, no slow build-up to a shared world—we’re just in it. And that’s fine. Actually, it’s better. These aren’t characters being introduced for the sake of spectacle—they already exist here, and it makes everything feel more natural. We don’t need origin stories for everyone. Just give us heroes, and let us catch up.

Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor? Yes. Instantly menacing, oddly charismatic, and you can already tell he’s going to be one of those villains that sticks with you. And then there’s Krypto. Dog people, prepare yourselves. He’s going to steal scenes and hearts—and probably destroy furniture while doing it. He’s got that energy.

The trailer makes it clear: this movie has something for everyone. It’s funny, it’s emotional, it’s massive in scope. Superman feels relatable—not because he’s gritty, but because he cares. Because he’s a good man trying to do the right thing in a wild world full of monsters and heroes. He gets knocked down, but he never gives up. That’s Superman.

And look, unless you’re still clinging to the Zack Snyder era, this movie is for you. It’s time to move forward. This is a fresh start, and it feels right. I’ll be genuinely shocked if this doesn’t end up being the biggest movie of the summer. The buzz is real. The name Superman still means something. Everyone knows it. Everyone’s curious.

This is exactly the direction I want to see Batman take in this universe, too. Big. Colorful. Fantastical. Let the world be weird. Let it breathe. Let these icons shine in the type of world they were made for.

Corenswet has all the sauce. He’s about to own this role. Ma and Pa Kent look perfect. The emotional beats are clearly there. The set pieces look massive. And yes, you can already tell there’s going to be that signature James Gunn humor peppered throughout. I really think this could be a home run.

Honestly, I’ll be shocked if I walk away from this movie not loving it.
