The new trailer for the DCU’s Supergirl is a huge step up from the first — and the improvement is obvious right away. Director Craig Gillespie lets the visuals do most of the talking, and it works. There’s a confidence to the footage that feels very different from the earlier look, and it reinforces that this is now the next big step in James Gunn’s DCU following Superman.
The trailer even opens with a transmission from David Corenswet’s Superman to Kara, tying the universe together. It’s not the most exciting connection, but it makes sense for world-building. Still, the real star here is Milly Alcock. The more we see of her as Supergirl, the more it feels like perfect casting. She brings intensity, attitude, and vulnerability — and she looks ready to carry the movie.
Another major highlight is Jason Momoa as Lobo. He looks like he’s having the time of his life, and honestly, it might be the most fun he’s ever had in a role. The anti-hero bounty hunter angle fits perfectly, and his presence instantly boosts the trailer’s energy. If Supergirl and Lobo both land, that’s already a big win.
Supporting characters like Eve Ridley’s Ruthye and Matthias Schoenaerts’ villain Krem appear solid, even if the antagonist gives off early-MCU “forgettable space villain” vibes. But that may not matter — this movie looks focused on Kara’s emotional journey, especially her mission to save Krypto, which adds a strong emotional hook (and yes, if anything happens to the dog, audiences will riot 🐶).
Overall, this second trailer really sells the potential. The visuals are stronger, the tone is clearer, and the casting — especially Alcock and Momoa — looks spot on. With the superhero genre in a weird place right now, this feels like a movie that could surprise people at the box office. Big improvement, big potential, and suddenly Supergirl is one to watch.
