‘Lady Bird’ Review

Much like the man himself, Larry Bird, Lady Bird is just really good

Lady Bird is written and directed by Greta Gerwig, and stars Saoirse Ronan as the titled character Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson. She wants everyone in her life to call her “Lady Bird” rather than her given name of Christine. This is a story of discovery and finding out who you are and where you belong in life. It’s a coming of age tale, told in a different way, and Greta Gerwig in her first solo outing as director knocks it out of the park. “Lady Bird” is trying to figure out who she is and what she wants to do with her life, in the final months of her senior year in high school. She’s applying to colleges, meeting boys and all around just trying to find out where she fits in. Living in Sacramento she really wants to go to an out of State school, but financially it just might not work. Unlike most coming of age tales told in the view of a girl, this one doesn’t really focus much on her romantic life, yes she meets boys and has experiences with them, but this tale is all about the mother/daughter relationship. Enter Laurie Metcalf who plays “Lady Birds” mother Marion. She’s a workaholic who does double shifts at the hospital, runs the household, takes care of two kids, and provides for the entire family. Her and “Lady Bird” do not see eye-to-eye. In fact the very first moments of the movie, the two are arguing in the car and “Lady Bird” gets so fed up that she throws herself out the car door, while they are still driving! I honestly didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at this very moment, and it was actually at that exact moment when I knew I would really enjoy this film. I didn’t watch any trailers for this, I simply went because of word of mouth. I enjoyed this movie immensely, it was a nice change of pace, having seen a ton of blockbusters lately. The directing and acting are both phenomenal and I’m sure you will be hearing about Lady Bird come Oscar season.

Like I mentioned above, this movie is all about the mother/daughter relationship. “Lady Bird” and her mother make each others lives very difficult as they are completely opposite personalities and are rarely on the same page. The dynamic between them and their relationship was just really refreshing to watch, because it just felt so real and authentic. “Lady Bird” just wants her mother to accept who she is, and she feels as thought her mother does love her, she doesn’t necessarily “like her.” “Lady Bird” is a very unique individual and everyday she aspires to be something different. From her friends, to the clothes she wears to the school she wants to go to the following year. This all wears and tears on her mother, who is simply just trying to keep up with her daughter. “Lady Bird” isn’t a rebel per say, but she acts in rebellious ways from time to time, mostly to impress others. She joins the school play in an attempt to help her college applications, she works two jobs because her family can’t financially put her through college. Working doubles at the psychiatric hospital can only go so far, due to the fact that “Lady Birds” father is out of work, and is having an extremely hard time finding new work.

All of the performances are incredible, Saoirse and Laurie are probably up for Oscar nominations and rightfully so. They both shine and their banter back and forth and their conversations and interactions felt so real and authentic, that you wonder how much of this dialogue was just improvised. Lucas Hedges who plays one of “Lady Birds” love interests is also really good in this. Everyone just feels so real in this movie. You are just place in the middle of scenes and it comes across so natural but at the same time you wish you knew what these characters were talking about before the scene started. Beanie Feldstein plays Julie, “Lady Birds” lovable best friend. She serves as sort of the comedic relief and the voice of reason to “Lady Bird.” You really start to care for all these people and by the time the movie is finishing you wish you could spend more time with them, because there is a lot more to explore with all of them. The movie is only 93 minutes long so it flies by, so when it’s conclusion rolls around, I was unhappy with the fact that it was ending the way it did. That is probably my only critique of this movie, I was just unhappy with the ending, because I wanted more time with these characters and it kind of just ended abruptly. When that happens you know you just sat through an incredible movie experience and that’s what going to the movies is all about.

Lady Bird is about identity, not knowing who you are and wanting to be someone else, but in the end you realize that you are perfect just the way you are, and you shouldn’t try to be something you’re not. Sometimes finding your way through life can be difficult, but you will always have people supporting you, wether you want to believe that or not. This movie should be nominated for awards and it might even win a few, take you Mom to go see this movie, it’s just a really enjoyable experience.

Avengers: Infinity War Trailer.

Holy Santa Claus shit. Christmas has come early folks! I’m sorry for cursing.

Comic book fans rejoice. Remember at the beginning of AmericanPie, when Jim is trying to watch the illegal porn? And it’s all fuzzy and distorted? That was every comic book fan watching the leaked Infinity War trailer from San Diego Comic-Con. For the last four months since that trailer wowed audiences at SDCC, simpletons like myself have been begging Marvel to release a trailer for the highly anticipated conclusion to the Avengers trilogy. Well it’s finally here, they finally listened to all of our complaints. The Infinity War trailer has arrived, and my god is it glorious. Put away those tube socks, because before you know it this will be in front of our very eyes in a theatre near you.

“Fun isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe. But this, this does put a smile on my face” – Thanos.

So that was pretty amazing right? It only took Marvel 4 months to finally drop a trailer for Infinity War, and they did not disappoint. So many questions to consider after watching it. Let’s just get it out of the way. I’ve been waiting almost ten years to see Thanos and it lived up to the hype and build up. I really don’t see anyone beating that guy. He’s menacing, he’s pissed off and most improbably he seems to give zero you know whats. They certainly packed this trailer full, considering it is only 2 mins and 24 seconds. We get to see all of our heroes, some more than others, but remember the movie doesn’t come out for another six months….WHY GOD WHY!?

Thanos is on a mission to collect all the infinity stones it looks like and he doesn’t care who or what gets in his way. No armoured Spider-Man. Not the Hulk, Iron Man or whoever else the Avengers can throw at him. Sorry Vision your time looks to be up, Loki is doing Loki things and handing over a stone to the Mad Titan himself. There appears to be an all out war going on in Wakanda. My guess is that’s where the final infinity stone will be located so they will stop at nothing to protect it. Captain America has an incredible beard, so you know that means this movie will get serious. Thor looks like he has made some new friends, meeting up with the Guardians, not by choice I’d imagine.

Again it looks like Tony Stark will be the focale point in the movie and it almost looks like he’s given up the Iron Man persona, but that is just me speculating. Maybe he semi-retires after the events of Civil War. I just can’t get over how incredible Thanos sounds and looks, kudos to you Josh Brolin. He even looks like you!

I can’t wait 6 months for this movie to come out, I will watch this trailer about 100 times today. Infinity War is shaping up to be everything the MCU has promised it would be for the last decade. Really well done Russo Brothers.

Trust The Podcast: Power Rankings

Man the Grizz did Fizdale wrong. How’s that for data?

Power_Rankings_HandsetBranding_Title_xxxhdpi_0

10.) Portland Trail Blazers (12-8). PPG: 103.2(20h) ORtg: 106.1 (18th) DRtg: 101.9 (3rd). This Week: @NYK Vs MIL Vs NOP

What a shootout Friday afternoon between the Trail Blazers and the Nets. It was nice to see them scrape away that victory, 3-1 on their current road trip which ends tonight in New York. Portland remains to be one the best defensive teams in the league, and when they score 120 plus points should be really hard to beat. Big game against New Orleans who they are battling with for a playoff spot.

9.) Minnesota Timberwolves (12-8) PPG: 108.1 (6th) ORtg: 110.4 (5th) DRtg: 110.5 (28th) This Week: Vs. WAS @NOP @OKC Vs.LAC

So a couple things about the Wolves. First of all, they can’t shoot threes. The perimeter game for the Wolves is getting torched by other teams. Jimmy Butler is finally coming into his own, and being ranked 6th in PPG and 5th in offensive rating, really makes you wonder, considering how bad they are from the outside. Ranked pretty much at the bottom of the league in defence is again startling, this being a coach Thibs team. KAT and Wiggins really need to start playing better two way basketball.

8.) Philadelphia Sixers (11-7). PPG: 109.6 (6th) ORtg: 106.6 (15th) DRtg: 104.5 (9th). This Week: Vs CLE Vs WAS @BOS Vs DET

Joel Embiid thinks he’s the best defensive player in the NBA right now. They rank in the top ten in defence. Maybe theres something here, it’s impressive because of how young this team is. What a tough week for the Sixers, I guess we will see how good they really are come Sunday night. A 2-2 split would be ideal for them.

7.) Toronto Raptors (12-7) PPG: 109.6 (5th) ORtg: 112.4 (3rd) DRtg: 105.2 (11th) This Week: Vs CHA Vs IND

I’m dipping the Raptors a little more than I maybe should. But with a 28-0 run against the Knicks last week, and followed up with a terrible outting in Indiana, I felt this was necessary. The Raptors currently have the leagues best bench aggregate NetRtg at 12.1 The bench is a mob, and when they come in they continue to out work the other team. Van Fleet has been filling in well for Delon Wright in his absences. Maybe he should be getting a few more minutes a game, they need to rebound this week and walk away 2-0 on the week.

6.) San Antonio Spurs (12-7) PPG: 100.9 (25th) ORtg: 106.0 (20th) DRtg: 103.0 (4th) This Week: Vs Dal Vs MEM @MEM @OKC

Good news Spurs fans. Tony Parker is making his season debut against the Mavs this week. Bad news, it’s not Kawhi Leonard. Parker should at least help some of their offensive woes, before Kawhi comes back fully healthy. Still boosting an impressive defensive rating, the Spurs are sitting pretty in the West. Brandon Paul looks to be like a diamond in the rough for Pop. Still on pace for another 50 win season!

5.) Detroit Pistons (12-6) PPG: 103.7 (18th) ORtg: 107.9 (10th) DRtg: 105.9 (13th) This Week: @BOS Vs PHX @WAS @PHI

The Positive Pistons! That’s what I’m dubbing them. Drummond is new and improved, tweeting the most positive things known to mankind. It’s almost 20 games into the season, and they haven’t collapsed yet. I think these Pistons could be for real. Had a really great win in OKC last week. And that improved them to 6-1 against the West this season, this Pistons team is full of energy and really fun to watch.

4.) Cleveland Cavaliers (12-7) PPG 110.8 (3rd) ORtg: 111.9 (4th) DRtg: 111.2 (29th) This Week: @PHI Vs MIA @ATL Vs MEM

Winners of 7 in a row. LeBron James is on a mission. Boy he had some impressive games last week, and the Cavaliers are rolling. Their defence still stinks, and Derick Rose could be done with basketball. Now more than ever do the Cavs need IT back. The defence has been getting better, obviously with winning 7 straight it has to be. Can’t wait for IT to come back and see what this team can truly be.

3.) Houston Rockets (15-4) PPG: 113.5 (2nd) ORtg: 114.3 (2nd) DRtg: 104.1 (8th) This Week: Vs BKN Vs IND @LAL

Chris Paul is back and the Rockets are still rolling. Putting up monster numbers on the offensive end. James Harden is battling LeBron for MVP right now, getting to another level this year. He is taking over the “Steph Curry” Award which is pretty much who hits the most threes in a season. If Paul stays healthy and Harden keeps this pace up, Golden State will have a tough foe come May.

2.) Golden State Warriors (15-5) PPG: 117.4 (1st) ORtg: 114.8 (1st) DRtg: 103.9 (6th) This Week vs Sac @LAL @ORL @MIA

Oh boy. Like lambs to the slaughter. What a schedule for the leagues best offence this week. Here’s the crazy thing. During the month of November, the Warriors have had the leagues best defence……Let that sink in for a second, because they are already the odds on favourite to win the title. The season started and people were questioning their defence, and look at them now. Warriors are just too good.

1.) Boston Celtics (18-3) PPG: 103.9 (19th) ORtg: 107.0 (13th) DRtg: (98.9 (1st) This Week: vs DET vs PHI vs PHX

They finally lost. Didn’t see that coming, especially against the Heat. Kyrie’s play down the stretch in close games is truly something special. He was at one point +40 in games within 5 points with under 5 minutes left. Boston’s bench continues to improve and the two Jayson’s just keep getting better. Brad Stevens has a real winner on his hands.

Where Does WB and DC Go From Here?

Who did it better? Answer is pretty simple.

94 million dollars. That’s what Justice League made its opening weekend at the domestic box-office. Avengers on the other hand made 208 million all the way back in 2008. It’s one of the most successful movies ever made, and highly regarded as one of the best CBM ever made. Fans alike are in an uproar over Justice League as word has been spreading about WB studios completely and utterly destroying Zack Snyder’s original cut and vision. So all in all, not a good weekend for WB and the DCEU. Now is it time for them to seriously consider hitting the panic button and rebooting all of this? Personally, I don’t think so, that would be a terrible move on their part because if you take fragments from Justice League and other DCEU you definitely have something there. Yes, it’s not as concrete as the MCU, but that is WB’s problem. It’s time for them to stop trying to “catch up” with Marvel and just do their own thing. That’s how we got into this whole mess in the first place…..

The Success of Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy

Remember back in 1997 when Batman & Robin was released and people said it ruined comic book movies (for the time being) it was a simpler time then, no shared universes, no big summer blockbusters, in 1997 comic book movies just weren’t all the rage they are today. Superman was still dormant after the successful run of the Christopher Reeves movies and Tim Burton’s Batman’s were the talk of the town in the early 90s. When Nolan decided it was time to bring back the Bat in 2005 with Batman Begins, people didn’t really know what to think. I included, but I was young and stupid back then and it wowed critics and audiences alike. The new grittier, darker, grounded take on the Caped Crusader really resonated with people and the start of a trilogy was born. At this time there were no big Superhero franchises really occurring other than the Spider-Man trilogy which fell flat towards the end, and the X-Men trilogy that met the same fate. People didn’t think too much of comic book movies during this time. Teasing us with the Joker at the end of Batman Begins well three years later we got him in what I regard as the greatest sequel ever made, The Dark Knight. It made over a billion dollars at the box-office and Heath Ledger even won an Oscar for his portrayal as the Clown Prince of Crime. This trilogy finally finished in 2012 with The Dark Knight Rises which was another smash hit, these movies were met with the highest praise from fans and critics. So WB decided it was time to cash in on other DC Superheroes. They attached Zack Snyder to bring to life a Superman story in Man of Steel. They thought it would be reasonable to build their own universe and bring the same tone and themes from The Dark Knight trilogy and cast it upon these other DC heroes. Questions loomed whether Christian Bale would come back to play Batman for this universe and when he was out, they decided that Man of Steel would be their jumping-off point for the DCEU, and that’s where it all began…..

The Success of The MCU

“Tony Stark, I’m here to talk to you about the Avengers initiative…..” Are words that I and countless others will never forget. Those words were uttered back in 2008, a time when audiences weren’t too sure what a “post-credits scene” meant. We were unfamiliar with comic book universes, hell most of us were unfamiliar with Iron Man himself. But still, this started the MCU, and well the rest is as you know is history. Billions of dollars and 17 movies later the MCU is stronger than ever and is still going full steam ahead. In the first four years, they released five movies, all leading up to the highly anticipated Avengers. They had built a solid foundation for their shared cinematic universe, something we fans were not accustomed to. Meanwhile, over at DC, they were still going strong with the Batman Nolan trilogy, but they had ZERO plans of following suit and starting a cinematic universe for their heroes. The Nolan Batman trilogy ended the same year the Avengers came out, and once the Avengers dropped, people realized, that all their movie-going experience over the last 4 years had finally paid off! They got to see a real Superhero team-up movie, and not only that, it was quite the spectacle. At that moment, WB knew they needed to follow suit and even other Hollywood studios knew that a “shared universe” was the way of the future. This is where things get messy for DC and Warner Brothers. because well Marvel was already six movies deep, built this incredible vast shared universe, and well DC was at ground zero. Even today, as I’m writing this, the DCEU has only put out FIVE movies, and most of those movies have been met with mixed reactions. The biggest problem with DC is they kind of want to be like Marvel, well here’s the thing, don’t be. Do it your own way, you have so many incredible characters and stories to tell, that you don’t need to follow Marvel’s plan. Just put out great movies, with great directors and tell us those amazing stories we have been reading our entire lives. DC feels the need to play “catch up” well you can’t. When the Avengers came out, WB had no plans for a Justice League movie, that was not on anyone’s mind, no Batman was planned, no Green Lantern, and not even Wonder Woman. The only movie they had coming out of the DC pipeline was Man of Steel. That being said they were so far behind from the get-go that attempting to even do that was so nonsensical and studio heads should have known better. This leads me into my next segment.

The Reaction To The DCEU Movies So Far

The year is 2013, Nolan’s TDK trilogy is no longer with us, and DC is using Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel as the launching point for the new DC world. I remember at the time, I wasn’t the biggest Superman fan, I really didn’t know a whole lot about the character except for what I had read in some comics. The trailers started pouring in and I was hooked instantly. I was intrigued with the new outlook and take on the classic character. Don’t get me wrong, Superman is a very difficult character to bring to life on the big screen. He’s essentially unstoppable so anyone you pin against him, is no match, his powers are unlimited. Henry Cahill was tapped to play the Man of Steel and he looked like he was literally ripped from the comic books. The rest of the cast was incredible with Michael Shannon, Amy Adams Diane Lane, and Kevin Costner. They were trying a new take, and it wasn’t met with the best reactions. They went with the TDK template, and they changed his mythos and overall character and it was met with some serious backlash. They wanted to ground his character as philosophy and Snyder certainly had a vision for him. Man of Steel just kind of fell short of expectations and more importantly didn’t do what Iron Man did all the way back in 2008, which was beginning a “shared universe.” Personally, I loved Man of Steel, from the cinematography to Hans Simmer’s epic score, I fell in love with this Superman, just it wasn’t the start to the new DC universe WB wanted. After the slow start with Man of Steel, WB decided to kick things into high gear and announced Batman v. Superman and everyone lost their goddamn minds. I remember it was at Comic-Con and they gave the Batman speech to Superman at the end of The Dark Knight Returns, and I thought to myself, “if they pull this thing off in live-action, it will be the greatest thing ever made.” Shortly after, they pinned Ben Affleck to play the Caped Crusader, and the internet was very torn. From the get-go, I have always believed Affleck would kill it as Batman, and he has honestly been the best thing in the DCEU so far. Later they grabbed Gal Gadot to play Wonder Woman, and no one was on board with that decision. Only being in a few Fast and Furious movies, people didn’t know if she had the acting chops to play this role. That’s all in the past now, because Gal was born to play the warrior princess. Everything behind Batman v Superman, from the trailers, the ads, posters, seemed like this was going to be a home run. Then it was released………..

Shortly after the release of Batman v Superman fans were divided, critics were firmly set in place and executives over at WB were dumbfounded about their situation. They just released a movie with both Batman and Superman and even Wonder Woman, and boy it was not met with a positive reaction. I think this was the start of the downfall for the DCEU. Now we had another DCEU movie coming out in 2016, Suicide Squad, which was put together with duck tape and glue. Script was written in 6 weeks, and this movie ended up being a complete and utter disaster. The trailers for this movie were incredible, I couldn’t wait and I haven’t watched Suicide Squad since opening night. The biggest takeaway was obviously reintroducing The Joker, making Jared Leto a soccer hooligan. Stick to what you know, don’t drastically change this iconic character, especially after what Heath Ledger did in TDK. Leto was just okay, there wasn’t enough of him, and now his future in the DCEU is up in the air. Harley Quinn was the best part of the movie, Margot Robbie was born to play her, and I really hope she comes back because I think in a better movie, under better direction, she could probably give a Ledger-type performance in a future DCEU movie. So 3 movies in a row for WB and the DCEU and three strikes. You’re out right? Well, thank the lord for Patty Jenkins and Wonder Woman, because they were up next. We waited almost a year for the next DCEU movie to hit theatres and it was worth the wait. Wonder Woman, the most successful film of the year (so far), 92 percent of Rotten Tomatoes, the highest prior to that was 55% for Man of Steel. People thought this could be the turnaround WB needed, Wonder Woman felt fresh, felt like Patty Jenkins had passion behind this project, that it wasn’t rushed and it was just a simple origin story movie. It’s exactly what the doctor ordered. The DCEU was saved! Or so we thought. Well then the marketing campaign started for Justice League and well we all know how this turned out. I already wrote a ton of Justice League, I’ll say this, it’s a bummer what happened to Zack’s movie, that isn’t right, I hope we see his cut of the movie because it does sound amazing.

What I think WB Needs To Do Going Forward

Batfleck is out, it sucks, but I have come to terms with it. The worst part is, I think Matt Reeves is going to make a special Batman solo movie and only Ben Affleck should star in it. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe he will stick this thing out for one last movie, his solo movie, and if that day comes and he’s in the Matt Reeves solo Batman movie. MY GOD.

Warner Brothers. here’s the thing. STOP, stop trying to be like Marvel. Stop trying to play catch up, just go out at your own pace. Stop trying to force these things on us. Great stories take time to tell, just like in the comics. The best comic writers didn’t pile so much shit into each issue, they took their time and flushed great stories out over many issues. It’s time to shift focus not on team-ups but solo movies. We have Aquaman coming out next December. Let James Wan do his thing with this movie. Don’t mettle, don’t interfere, you don’t bring on a brilliant filmmaker like Wan and then make him follow a strict guideline. Maybe sprinkle in a cameo of some sort. Cyborg? Here’s my thing with Cyborg, he was great, I wanted to see more. Does he need his own solo movie? No! But he can be the League member who pops up in everyone else’s solo flicks. Ray Fisher is the least famous cast member and probably the least expensive, so use that to your advantage. Cyborg is the jack of all trades, he can do so much, so why not have him come help everyone out. That makes so much sense to me. If he sticks with fans and the audiences after a few cameos then yes, green light that solo movie. Find directors and people that are super passionate about these characters and want to tell their stories, that want to bring these characters to life in a grand fashion. You have one year to figure all this out because you are back at square one. There are so many great stories out there about these characters, more stories than you could imagine, pick one and adapt it, it’s not rocket science. Personally base most of these solo movies of the New 52 comic book run.  Don’t make a Joker origin story movie, we don’t need that. We don’t need a Suicide Squad 2, or Batgirl film. Stick to the basics, stick to the basics, stick to the basics. Also, call in the big guns, and I mean Dwayne Johnson. Get that man in the Shazam movie, make him badass, and make him a big part of Justice League 2. He doesn’t need a solo movie. Black Adam and  Shazam are like peas and carrots, they belong together. The Rock saves franchise, use him while you can and before he bails. I would rather wait a little longer and get great stories, incredible movies, and successful ones, than have WB rush all of this out and make the DCEU as forgettable as it’s slowly becoming. DC fans deserve much better than what has transpired thus far, I know and I think deep down WB knows it.

Trust The Podcast: Power Rankings

Joel Embiid is really good at basketball, that is all

joel-embiid.jpg

10.) Cleveland Cavaliers (9-7). PPG: 110.6 (3rd) ORtg: 110.8 (4th). Drug: 112.4 (30th). This Week: @DET, vs. BKN, vs. CHA

Don’t look now, but the Cavs have won four straight games, and seem to be finding their groove. Yes they still rank dead last in defensive rating in the league, well which is not great, but if they keep winning, really that’s all that matters for now. They have a couple of revenge game this week against Brooklyn who beat them early on in the year. LeBron is quietly putting up monster numbers, with 28.9PPG, 7.8RPG and 8.6APG, he has logged the most minutes in the league so far, and I don’t know if that is sustainable, but it’s LeBron, I think he will be the first guy to defeat Father Time.

9.) Portland Trail Blazers (9-7). PPG: 103.0 (19th) ORtg: 106.6 (15th). DRtg: 100.9 (2nd) This Week: @MEM @PHI @BKN @WAS

Who knew going into this season Portland would be sporting the 2nd best defensive rating almost 20 games into the year. Well they do, and Lillard and McCollum are both still studs, and Terry Stots has done a great job figuring out his rotations. The bottom seeds in the West playoff picture will be up for grabs, so if Portland can keep up their defensive ways, I’m sure they will find themselves sitting pretty in a playoff spot come April.

8.) Washington Wizards (9-7). PPG: 108.1 (12th) ORtg: 109.3 (8th). DRtg: 105.0 (9th). This Week: @MIL, @CHA, vs. POR

Like usual John Wall has gotten off to a less than stellar start. And right now he is battling injuries, so the most important thing for the Wizards to do is get him healthy. Luckily, Otto Porter and Bradley Beal have been taking on the load, and doing so in spectacular fashion. Beal is probably the MVP for the Wizards so far, who face a tough road ahead, with a bunch of games on the road in the next two weeks.

7.) Minnesota Timberwolves (10-6) PPG: 107.5 (13th) ORtg: 109.5 (7th) DRtg: 109.0 (21st) This Week: @CHA vs ORL vs MIA vs PHX

Every week I’m still in disbelief that a coach Thibs team is ranked 21st in defence. Is it the players? Was Thibs just kind of an overrated defensive coach? I don’t think that is the case. A guy who needs to start stepping up for the Wolves on the defensive side of the ball is Townes. I needs to become a rim protector. They just don’t get stops, which is so vital for a long playoff run and team success. They are playing ,much better as of late winning 8 of their last 10 games, but it’s the defensive stuff that scares me with this team.

6.) San Antonio Spurs (10-6) PPG: 101.6 (21st) ORtg: 106.7 (14th) DRtg: 104.0 (5th) This Week: vs. ATL @NOP @CHA

Almost a quarter of the way through the season, and still no Kawhi Leonard. I don’t want to say this is going to be like an Andrew Luck scenario, but they are being awfully coy about his injury and when he is set to come back. I get it, Houston and Golden State have locked up 1st and 2nd in the West. So why rush him back right now, when they want a 100 percent healthy Kawhi. Still really impressive feat, that the Spurs have managed to win 10 games already without a top 5 player in the league.

5.) Toronto Raptors (11-5) PPG: 110.4 (8th) ORtg: 112.9 (3rd) DRtg: 105.8 (12th) This Week: @NYK @IND @ATL

Holy moly, what a difference a week can make. Seriously, what a week. Back to back wins against Houston and New Orleans (on the road) and then finishing up the week with wins against the Knicks and Wizards at the ACC. Lowry has seriously found his groove and played his best four games of the season last week. The turn around could point to OG Anouby, who started last week and provided a huge spark for the Raptors. They are ranked 8th in assists per game, which is such a turn around from last year, when they ranked dead last in the association.

4.) Detroit Pistons (11-5). PPG: 105.0 (16th) ORtg: 109.0 (9th) DRtg: 105 (9th) This Week vs CLE @OKC

One of the few teams to rank in the top ten in both offensive and defensive rating. The Pistons continue to impress the NBA community and more importantly keep winning games. Drummond is a beast, leading the league in rebounds, and is having his best season of his career. Credit to Stan Van Gundy who might of had one foot out the door, I thought this was going to be a write off season for Detroit, and they have proved myself, and many others wrong so far. Keep it up.

3.) Houston Rockets (13-4) PPG: 112.6 (2nd) ORtg: 113.6 (2nd) DRtg: 104.9 (7th) This Week: vs DEN vs NYK

Chris Paul is back, he’s healthy and Houston is still really good at basketball. The defence is still there, even James Harden has turned a new leaf. They had an awful game against the Raptors last week, but almost clawed back. So CP3 played one game with the Rockets and then has been sitting ever since. These next few weeks, I believe we will finally see the real Rockets. This is the CP3 send off tour, he certainly is far form retiring, but this Rockets team could have found some magic this season and this could be his chance to finally you know, do something in the playoffs….

2.) Golden State Warriors (13-4) PPG: 117.9 (1st) ORtg: 115.2 (1st) DRtg: 105.0 (10th) This Week: @OKC vs. CHI vs NOP

A showdown with the Thunder should be really fun to watch, but what is there to say about the Warriors, other than the loss to the all might Celtics last week. Look it’s the Warriors, I can only say so much. They have an unstoppable offence and are actually turning it around on the defensive side of the ball. There only weakness? The inside paint presence, that could potentially hurt them down the line if they get cold from the outside.

1.) Boston Celtics (15-2) PPG 102.5 (22nd) ORtg: 106.0 (18th) DRtg: 97.7 (1st) This Week: @DAL @MIA vs ORL @IND

They haven’t lost a game since October 20th, need I say more? Probably going to get to at least 19 wins…..

‘Rampage’ = Glorious

So you’re telling me Dwayne Johnson is going to fight a giant ape, wolf and crocodile? Sign me up

Rampage-Movie-2018-Trailer-Dwayne-Johnson-The-Rock
(WARNER BROTHERS.)

People we have a new king of the jungle and it’s this giant ape George. Look out, we might have a new front runner for best movie adapted from a video game! Yeah I know, it was only the first teaser trailer, but Rampage starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson looks like a A TON OF FUN. Seriously though, let’s not take this thing too seriously here, it’s about giant mutated animals running wild around the streets of Chicago. But if I know one thing, Dwayne Johnson movies work like 60% of the time and this is one of those times. Based off the Rampage the 80’s arcade game, it looks like we will have a highly entertaining summer movie on our hands.

From the same director (Brad Peyton) who did San Andreas along with Dwayne, I actually really like that movie. It was a fun summer blockbuster, it looked pretty fantastic, so instead of an earthquake, you’re replacing it with giant animals? Just take my money now Warner Brothers. I know he has a tendency to do kind of the same movie over and over again, like world ending, disaster, destruction, cheesy popcorn flicks, but it suits him. That’s what The Rock does best in my opinion and Rampage looks and feels no different. Everyone here seems to be having fun, the cast is really good, with Naomi Harris (James Bond Girl), who is just excellent and so lovely. We got Jeffrey Dean Morgan doing well Jeffrey Dean Morgan things, its Negan without the baseball bat. I actually hope the trailer didn’t ruin his apparent death in the movie? Because I want as much JDM in Rampage as humanly possible. Finally we have Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike) who is so badass and awesome, and I’m so excited to see him side by side with The Rock.

You can’t sit there and tell me you weren’t a little entertained by the trailer? I’m not picky when it comes to movies and like I said, this will be just another mind numbing summer blockbuster, that you see on the big screen, have a good time doing so, and then never watch the movie again. Sometimes that’s what movies are all about, and for me, this looks like it will be a wild ride.

Casting The ‘Barstool’ Movie

Viva la stool!

Barstool Sports, where debate happens! Love em or hate em, Barstool has certainly come a long way, and are really reaching new heights in terms of not only recognition but also in wealth. I feel like ever since the stint on Comedy Central last year before the Super Bowl, Barstool has been gaining momentum and really have flourished. For me being a fan of the company, what I love the most, is the different amount of personalities that come with it. They have some very talented young people working for them, who I think are going to go on to do some incredible things. One thing I love is movies, and I thought what if down the road, someone made a movie about Barstool and how it kind of all came to be. So I thought to myself, I wonder who would play certain people, and I figured I would cast the movie myself. There are so many great people that work for Barstool, but I can only do so many, so if you are left out, it really is nothing personal, these are just the people I thought about first! Some of these could be way off, but I’m thinking of actors who could encapsulate the character of these people and looks like them. I’m kind of hoping this just sparks an office debate.

@BarstoolNate: Nate Aka Eric – Giovanni Ribisi

Should I call him Nate? His name is Eric, but lets just go with Nate (that’s my name, how neat!) Any who, Nate serves as sort of the online enforcer at Barstool, where he literally doesn’t take shit from anyone. If he wasn’t working at Barstool, I’m fairly certain he would be working for the FBI, because his digging on the internet skills are through the roof. He’s also wicked smart and enjoys playing poker and I assume is good with money and numbers. He loves defending his co-workers and making people feel stupid for shaming Barstool meanwhile those exact people do the same thing they are shaming Barstool for. I think this one was easy, Giovanni would really thrive in that cocky, I beat you kind of attitude that comes with Nate.  I also think perhaps Nate does this when intoxicated.

@RobbieBarstool: Robbie Fox – Thomas Mann

The resident geek of Barstool sports. A geek that is held in the highest regard in my books. Not to mention he’s not even old enough to legally drink alcohol. Robbie has interviewed more famous people at such a young age, and he has a serious bright future. Lover of WWE and MMA, Robbie has a badass side to him, and doesn’t really back down to anyone. Slap a pair of glasses on Thomas Mann and we have ourselves a Robbie Fox. I think he could really nail Robbie’s geekier side, but also bring his humour along with it.

@BarstoolFran:  Francesca – Emma Stone & @Barstoolria: Ria – Margot Robbie

I feel like the girls, if they read this are either going love my choices are hate them. Fran, she’s smart, she’s sophisticated, she’s the ying to Ria’s yang. So casting the girls, I thought of two actresses that could have just as good of chemistry in the movie, as these girls do in real life. Fran seems like the perfect girl next door and doesn’t that just scream Emma Stone. One she’s an Oscar winner, so she’s going to bring it. Fran is kind of the voice of reason in this dynamic duo, and is the more calm of the two, when the debate things on Chicks In The Office. Ria, you do not want to cross this girl, or she will fight you. She will always have your back and has attitude for days, but can also be incredibly sweet. She might not be the Duchess, but Margot has proven before that she can have that Long Island attitude. Ria has probably even thrown a glass of water in Hanks face. Like from what we saw in Wolf of Wall Street, I think this is perfect.

@Henry_ease: Hank – Bradley Cooper.

When thinking about Hanks casting, two things crossed my mind. One they needed to be handsome, and secondly they needed to be able to grow a wicked beard. Well Bradley Cooper meets both those requirements with ease. The question reminds would Bradley sign on to a role where he is kind of in the background, I think so. With a big boxing tilt coming up, the legend of Hank will only grow. Plus an on screen romance between Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie would be fire.

@PFTCommenter: – Unknown

The man of mystery, I bet if I did a deep dive on the internet I could find of PFT’s real name, but guess what, I DON’T WANT TOO. Funny, witty, gritty, a man of a thousand voices, are just some of the ways to describe this man. I just wanted to say PFT should play himself, I feel like that’s what PFT would say, but no, this is Hollywood and there is always a man for the job. That man in none other than Matthew McConaughey, lets be honest, when I say, Matthew could really get PFT’s “spiritual” side. He can grow is hair out and they are both Alpha’s. I just thought about this for like 20 minutes, and I feel like I nailed it.

@Feitelberg: John Feitelberg – Glenn Howerton

If there’s one thing Feitelberg loves more than Tom Brady, it’s Always Sunny, and I think he would be nothing but proud to have Glenn fill the shoes as the resident cock doctor of Barstool. The amount of sexual stories and conquests John has told is unimaginable, and I can even picture Glenn saying “I’ve spit in a girls mouth” and just having it roll right off his tongue. He used to kind of playing a drunk, sexual craved man, so playing Feitelberg would almost be a walk in the park for him at this point. If he is reading this, he’s either going to be like “yeah I can see this” or “this guy is a fucking idiot”

@KFCBarstool: Kevin Clancy – Charlie Day

I had to do this right? It only makes sense to be, Kevin another lover of It’s Always Sunny, and Charlie can command that mic just like Kevin. Kevin is loud, Kevin is cut throat, Kevin essentially doesn’t give a fuck, and his Barstool against the world attitude is what I admire the most about him. Charlie Day can do all that, he can get loud, he’s hilarious and more importantly his chemistry with Glenn. The banter between KFC and Feits is what makes KFC radio so goddamn special, and I know these two would bring that same chemistry. It just made so much sense in my head to cast these two guys.

@BarstoolBigCat: Dan Katz – Joaquin Phoenix

It would have been a toss up between John Candy or Jim Belushi, but well they are both dead, but man those are just amazing choices. I’m having a really hard time with this one, I just can’t put my finger on it. Then I landed on a really talented actor who can grow a serious moustache which is really important. Look Big Cat, has a big fucking heart. He cares so much about his teams, and his friends, and overall he is just a really humble human being. Joaquin is a fucking terrific actor, who will kill any role he is in. I wasn’t just going to slide in any “funny fat” dude in here. Because one Big Cat isn’t fat and more importantly he deserves better than that.

@stoolpresidente: Dave Portnoy – Edward Norton

The boss. The Man. The guy who started it all. He wears Barstool on his sleeve and wants to bring this shit to the moon. He can rub people the wrong way and doesn’t give a shit who is standing in his way. He wants to conquer the world and doesn’t care who’s feelings get hurt along the way. Who better to portray this than good old Edward Norton. Known to be a pain in the ass to work with, I feel like he would eat this shit right up. You need someone with attitude in this role and someone who will legit give zero fucks, that man is Norton. I feel like he could do a decent Boston accent as well, because that is so important when dealing with the Portnoy character.

@EKANardini: Erika K Nardini – Jessica Chastain

All you gotta do is dye Jessica’s hair and we are golden. The CEO, you need a strong woman in this role and who better than Jessica Chastain? You need a woman in this role, that will be around a pretty strong male cast, but not put up with any of the bullshit. A women who when she walks into the room evokes such confidence. Also a smart, well respected business woman, and again that has Chastain written all over it.

So that’s it. I think this will be directed by Martin Scorsese, because all I can picture is “Gimme Shelter” playing while the credits role and having the real people stand side by side with the cast, and it’s just perfect. I’m thinking Wolf of Wall Street meets Social Network.
